Mission

Mission Statement

The mission of the Physical Education Activity Program is to foster educational growth through instruction and participation in diverse physical activities, as well as translation and dissemination of knowledge involving physical activity and nutrition with the aim of promoting lifetime fitness and health.

Objectives

  • To offer a quality program of physical education to the university community on an elective basis focusing on the following areas:
    1. Exercise for fitness and well-being.
    2. Knowledge about healthy humans in movement.
    3. Physical activity skills for leisure use.
    4. Leadership skills for lay people in community exercise and recreation programs.
  • To educate Physical Education Teacher Education majors in a variety of movement exercise and sport activities for which there is limited provision in the professional preparation program.
  • To serve a variety of students' Physical Education Activity interests and needs and to provide students the opportunity for in-depth and continuation of instruction in those areas.
  • To provide financial support and teacher training for graduate students in the activity setting through a comprehensive in-service program and supervised experience in a model program with model teaching.
  • To be proactive as well as reactive to changing needs and interests of students of society.
