The Wisconsin Language Roadmap Initiative

Description
The Wisconsin Language Roadmap Initiative is a federally funded project to bring together leaders across sectors ​-- business and industry, health and human services, state and local government, community organizations, K-16 education, etc.​ -- to develop a plan to address Wisconsin's needs for a workforce that has advanced intercultural competencies and proficiency in languages other than English.

​In this panel discussion hosted by the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE), representatives who serve in leadership roles for the initiative will share progress on the project to date, including work to (1) assess the state's multilingual workforce and community needs; (2) identify the most pressing challenges in K-16 world language education; and (3) facilitate a process to bring together leaders from different sectors in Wisconsin to develop a shared vision for a world-ready workforce and a set of strategic goals and recommendations to strengthen world language education across the state at all levels, K-16. The culmination of this work is a report​ that will be published in ​Fall 2018.

In their remarks, the presenters will highlight the implications of the ​initiative for undergraduate education in Wisconsin.
