Gutsy, seasoned females present ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’

Seven critically acclaimed and award-winning performers ages 50-and-above are joining together to present “Dancing on the Ceiling.”  This series of original solos highlights the mastery of these mature, renowned artists who bring nuance, subtlety and a rich sense of humanity to each work, often with witty and wry points of view.

Performances take place on Friday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2:30 p.m., both in Lathrop Hall’s Margaret H'Doubler Performance Space.

Dancing on the CeilingThis concert is being co-presented by UW-Madison’s Dance Department and Li Chiao-Ping Dance. It will include performances from: Simone Linhares Ferro, chair of the Department of Dance at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee; Charlotte Adams, a professor in the Department of Dance at the University of Iowa; Beth Corning, artistic director of Corning Dances and Company; Heidi Latsky, artistic director of Heidi Latsky Dance based in New York; Li Chiao-Ping, a Vilas Research Professor at UW-Madison and artistic director of Li Chiao-Ping Dance; Debra Loewen, artistic director of Wild Space Dance Company in Milwaukee; and and Endalyn Taylor, an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. The Dance Department is housed within UW-Madison’s School of Education.

These artists will also be teaching master classes in the Dance Department the week prior to the concert. A free community dance class, open to the public, also will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, in Studio 349 of Lathrop Hall.

Tickets are $22 for the general public and $16 for students and seniors. They are available at Campus Arts Ticketing. You may also purchase tickets by phone (608-265-ARTS) or in person at 800 Langdon St., Madison. Audience members who pay cash in person at the Campus Arts Ticketing office will not have to pay convenience fees. Likewise, individuals can pay cash at the door one hour before the show at Lathrop Hall and will not be charged service fees.

There will be a reception with the artists immediately following Friday's performance in the Virginia Harrison Parlor, Lathrop Hall.
