Aneta Glowacz, Rehabilitation Psychology and Polish

Aneta GlowaczWhat brought you to UW–Madison?

Growing up, I always passed by the exit to UW–Madison while going up north to my family’s cabin. I would hear stories of friends and family who attended UW–Madison and the wonderful memories and opportunities that they had during their time on campus. When it came closer to applying to college, I knew that this university had everything that I was looking for and more after visiting and seeing the vibrant student life mixed with the high academic standards. I wanted to be a part of a community that is diverse, open, and forward thinking and that is exactly what I got.

How did you choose your majors in rehabilitation psychology and Polish?

I chose to pursue rehabilitation psychology as I want to become an occupational therapist one day. This major allowed me to meet requirements for graduate programs while also furthering my passion to be a part of the human service field. I had a lot of opportunities to go out into the community and make a difference in people’s lives. I chose to pursue Polish as I am a second generation Polish-American and I wanted to continue growth and understanding of my heritage. I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where there is a large Polish population so this major allowed me to feel a bit less homesick while also improving my language skills and area studies knowledge.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

Do not be afraid to feel uncomfortable. As a freshman, you are plunged into a whole new world which could quickly become overwhelming, but I promise you, you belong at UW–Madison.

What are your goals for the future?

Currently, I am applying to graduate programs for occupational therapy. I hope to become an occupational therapist and assist individuals in living their lives to the fullest with the highest quality of life imaginable. I also plan on adopting a dog in the near future!

You’re a UW–Madison expert now, so we must ask: which is the best Babcock ice cream flavor?

It is hands down chocolate peanut butter!
