Jordan Mickey, Education Studies

Jordan Mickey

What brought you to UW–Madison?

I have always known that I wanted to go into education, and the School of Education is ranked number one among public institutions, so I felt that it was a good choice. I am also from Wisconsin and have always wanted to go to the university.

How did you choose your major?

I was admitted as a Pre-Elementary Education major. After a summer job and taking some courses, I decided it was not the right fit. I am now an Education Studies major with certificates in public policy and religious studies. I enjoy studying the impact that policy has on education and other spheres of someone’s life.

What will you be focusing on during the fall semester?

This semester, I am going to be focused on having a great start to my senior year while finishing up requirements for my certificates. I am also interested in researching and following the way school districts and universities responded to the pandemic.

You expect to graduate in spring 2021. What are your plans after graduation?

I plan on attending graduate school with the goal of admittance to a program with a higher education or education leadership focus.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of classes?

I enjoy spending time with my family and my dog, which I get to do more of, because of remote learning this semester. I’ve spent a lot of time in quarantine painting, reading, and binge-watching TV series.
