“Repainting the Narrative,” an art exhibition by Jerry Jordan, academic and multicultural advisor in the UW–Madison School of Education, is currently on view in the School of Education Gallery through Oct. 31. An opening reception will be held Friday, Oct. 16, from 5–7 p.m.

In a description of the exhibition, Jordan writes:

“These selected paintings present a different narrative, one where Black faces (and) bodies exist in spaces and stories free from the burden of being the other, or the only one. Free from having to justify their presence or even their humanity. They are simply people who are fully alive and free.”

Beyond his work with the School of Education, Jordan is an accomplished artist and award-winning illustrator and author. His painting of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, commissioned by Dane County Circuit Court Judge Everett Mitchell, was recently spotlighted in the Capital Times. Jordan was also a featured guest at Brunch of Books, the Black Child Development Institute (BCDI) Wisconsin’s annual family literacy celebration, in Milwaukee on Sept. 5.
