Article co-authored by UW–Madison’s Winkle-Wagner appears in Teachers College Record

Winkle-Wagner is a faculty member with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, and a faculty affiliate of the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE). She co-authored the article with Bridget Turner Kelly of the Loyola University at Chicago’s School of Education.

Winkle-Wagner and Kelly’s research examined how black women experience the tenure process at predominantly White institutions. The data draws from qualitative longitudinal research centered on four black women from a larger study, and they found that despite being the only people of color in their respective academic programs that they “found ways to use their voice in and outside the academy.” A video of Turner Kelly and Winkle-Wagner talking about their report is available here.
