We consider applications from individuals who meet one or more of the following eligibility criteria:
- Any full-time, domestic student enrolled at a U.S. university or college in the spring semester is eligible to apply to SERP for that upcoming summer.
- Have completed their sophomore or junior year at an accredited college or university. Students who will have graduated by the start of the program are not eligible.
- Strong research interest in the education, health, and arts fields
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
SERP encourages students from all backgrounds to apply. This includes first-generation college students, those who have a background of overcoming disadvantages, or those residing in areas where undergraduate students’ research opportunities are not particularly available.

Applications for the Summer 2026 SERP program will open on Nov. 1st, 2025.
In the online application, students will need to submit three written statements (each with a 3900 character limit) and upload relevant documents:
- Future Goals and Career Plans statement;
- Identify desired SERP Mentor/project;
- Research Area(s) statement;
- Research Experience description;
- Two signed letters of recommendations from faculty or staff members whom you have had as instructors and/or research mentors;
- Official transcript(s).
When the application portal is open again, one can save and return to the online application as many times as you need to complete the process before the final deadline. Your application will be submitted only after pressing the “submit” button. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Once SROP applications are submitted, SERP staff reviews applications and work with School of Education departments to match applicants.
