Jamie L. Jaime Concepcion

Credentials: Ed-GRS Fellow

Jamie is a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Department of Kinesiology and forms part of Dr. Columna’s Promotion of Health Equity and Adapted Physical Activity (PHEAPA) Lab. Originally from Puerto Rico, Jamie received a double BA degree in Physical Education in the areas of Coaching & Training and Teaching at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Campus. She completed a curricular sequence in Adapted Physical Education where she worked with individuals with disabilities, specifically children with autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome. Seeing the limited resources for this population in Puerto Rico and her interest in making an impact, Jamie completed a Minor in Business Development with the goal of having her own business related to physical activity with an inclusive approach.

One of her professional goals is to combine her Kinesiology and business background to provide physical activity opportunities for individuals with disabilities. As part of the PHEAPA Lab, Jamie is working towards developing inclusive physical activity interventions for individuals with disabilities and their families to promote health and well-being. Jamie’s research interests center on physical activity and exercise interventions for parents of individuals with developmental disabilities.
