Nick R. Parkos is a Ph.D. student in the Counseling Psychology program and an Education Graduate Research Scholar (Ed-GRS) Fellow in the School of Education at UW-Madison. He holds an A.A. from Normandale Community College of Bloomington, MN, and a B.A. in Psychology from Augsburg University.

Currently, Nick’s research interests focus on why people behave in ways that are harmful to themselves (i.e., self-harm, suicide), especially among veterans and adolescents. His past research aimed to develop a neurobiological measure for assessing an individual’s risk for developing substance use disorders.

Previously a Marine Corps jet engine technician, Nick has a natural appreciation for anything mechanical (e.g., cars, planes, clocks). In his spare time, Nick loves cooking, oil painting, and being outdoors.
