Credentials: Ed-GRS Fellow
Nick R. Parkos is a PhD student in Counseling Psychology and an Education Graduate Research Scholar (Ed-GRS) Fellow at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He holds an A.A. from Normandale Community College and a B.A. in Psychology from Augsburg University.
His current research interests focus on why people engage in self-harmful behaviors (e.g., self-harm and suicide), particularly among adolescents, first responders, and veterans. Previously, Nick used EEG to validate a neurobiological marker that reflects an individual’s risk of developing substance use disorders.
In his clinical practice, Nick provides culturally responsive counseling to individuals in the Madison community. He brings particular insight and sensitivity to supporting students at UW–Madison, first responders, and military-affiliated populations.
A former Marine Corps jet engine technician, Nick has a strong appreciation for mechanical systems, such as cars, planes, and clocks. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, gardening, painting, and camping.
