Nick Parkos

Credentials: Ed-GRS Fellow

Nick R. Parkos is a PhD student in Counseling Psychology and an Education Graduate Research Scholar (Ed-GRS) Fellow at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He holds an A.A. from Normandale Community College and a B.A. in Psychology from Augsburg University.

His current research interests focus on why people engage in self-harmful behaviors (e.g., self-harm and suicide), particularly among adolescents, first responders, and veterans. Previously, as a lab manager, Nick contributed to research aimed at establishing a neurobiological measure for assessing an individual’s risk of developing substance use disorders.

A former Marine Corps jet engine technician, Nick has a strong appreciation for mechanical systems, such as cars, planes, and clocks. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, gardening, painting, and spending time outdoors.
