Jason’s passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion work started when he first began his undergraduate degree at UW-Platteville. As a queer, disabled man who grew up near poverty in rural Wisconsin, he understands that he holds both marginalized identities as well as power through his privileged identities. Jason is committed to using that position of privilege and power to work towards creating a better college experience for all marginalized students. At UW-Platteville, Jason worked with both the Doyle Center for Gender and Sexuality and the Department of Campus Climate, and he worked on projects such as nationally reaching conferences and uncovering the history of influential women in history and their impact on the UW-Platteville campus.
Jason began working as the Executive Assistant at the Dean’s Office in the School of Education during the height of the pandemic. While working for the Dean’s Office, Jason successfully facilitated the return to in-person work for the school’s leadership team and worked hard to keep the Dean’s Office running successfully. Jason transitioned to working full-time with the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in April 2021. In this role, Jason supports the Ed-GRS program, oversees the OEDI finances, serves as the HR liaison, and manages the office. Jason works closely with the Assistant Dean for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and is the go-to for the office and any needs OEDI staff have.
Jason received BAs in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies as well as English from UW-Platteville. Jason is taking time to reflect on what his next steps are academically, and he is excited to begin his MA soon.
