Curtis Wright

Curtis (Light) Wright is a doctoral student in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He holds a master’s degree in Japanese Linguistics from UW–Madison and a master’s degree in Asian Languages and Cultures from Rutgers University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in English and Pedagogy from Rutgers. Curtis’s research examines how raciolinguistic ideologies shape students’ experiences of identity, belonging, voice, and well-being across higher education. Drawing on frameworks such as Community Cultural Wealth and critical qualitative traditions, he studies how domestic and international students navigate institutional expectations and cultivate resources within campus ministry organizations. Methodologically, he uses ethnographic and mixed methods approaches to connect students’ lived experiences with broader patterns across communities and to illuminate how belonging, recognition, and support are produced in everyday campus life.
