Madison365 celebrates graphic novel co-authored by UW-Madison’s Robinson

Robinson is a senior research associate with Wisconsin’s Equity and Inclusion Laboratory, which is housed within the School of Education’s Wisconsin Center for Education Research. His research has a particular emphasis on African American males and individuals with dyslexia, which stems from his lived experience as a black male with Dyslexia. Robinson also currently serves as a director at large of the International Dyslexia Association.

Robinson’s research is reflected in his new graphic novel, “Doctor Dyslexia Dude!” This publication features a black, dyslexic superhero. Co-authored with his wife, Inshirah Robinson, “Doctor Dyslexia Dude” is a compelling story of an African American boy who is a superhero with dyslexia.

The authors take readers through a specific moment where the boy struggled with reading, avoided it, and had low self-esteem about his abilities, but flourished academically beyond all expectations.

According to Madison365’s report, proceeds from the book will be supporting a scholarship Robinson wants to start with the International Dyslexia Association. A portion of the profits will also be going towards helping students in underserved communities receive tutoring services for Dyslexia.

Robinson tells Madison365 of his ambitions with the sale of his graphic novel, saying, “We are just trying to give back. The best way to give back is through a scholarship.”
