It was a beautiful late summer day for members of the School of Education community — many used to seeing each other only in boxes on their computer screens — to reunite for the traditional Welcome Back Bash for faculty and staff, in the North Plaza of the Education Building overlooking Lake Mendota, on Thursday, Sept. 2. While enjoying a full tailgate lunch, and picking up T-shirts tagged with the phrase “Lead and Inspire,” attendees took a break from their workdays to catch up with colleagues and kick off the new school year.

Like thousands of other Summer Term courses offered in 2020, Theatre 200 Acting Skills for Life was unexpectedly transitioned to an online format. For Clare Haden, a lecturer in the School of Education's Department of Theatre and Drama who was hired to teach four sections of the course, it posed an interesting challenge.

UW–Madison’s Baron Kelly is joining the prestigious College of Fellows of the American Theatre in the honorary society’s next incoming class. He holds a joint appointment as a professor with both the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama, and the Division of Continuing Studies’ Department of Liberal Arts and Applied Studies, where he works with the Odyssey Project.

UW–Madison’s Mark H. (a.k.a. The NeoGriot), an assistant professor in the School of Education's Department of Theatre and Drama, was featured on Mar. 24 in the African Studies Program’s Africa at Noon series in a talk titled, “The Way of the NeoGriot: Towards a True African American Theater.”
