UW–Madison's Andy Rubin, a lecturer in lithography in the School of Education's Art Department, finished one last lithographic print — “of our beloved Bucky Badger, posing as a 19th century intellectual,” he explained — before the equipment had to be moved out of the building to a temporary space. The print will be used as a fold-over cover for the print sets that Rubin’s lithography students have created this semester.

The Discussion Project has released application information for three new sessions opening in Aug. 2021. Taking place in person, the course will support instructors in designing and implementing discussion for classes of 40 or fewer students.

UW–Madison alumna Linda McNeil died on April 1 at the age of 77. She earned her PhD from the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction in 1977. McNeil was the co-founder and longtime director of Rice University’s Center for Education.

After a nationwide search, the School of Education's Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion has named Samantha Becker (she/her) as the inaugural equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) director of teaching and learning innovation. Becker will begin her role on May 24.

Beth Allen was named UW–Madison’s 2021 Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow. Her experiences working at the Morgridge Center for Public Service, which is administratively housed in the School of Education, and in the Wisconsin Governor’s Office have helped inform and reinforce her passion for voter engagement and social justice.

Regina Fuller, a doctoral candidate in the School of Education's Department of Educational Policy Studies, is one of two recipients of the Deborah A. Hobbins Graduate Student Award in Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice from UW–Madison’s Center for Research on Gender and Women. Fuller was recognized for her project, “Debating sexuality: Sexual ideologies, gender, and education policy in Ghana.”

UW–Madison alumnus Robert Hudovernik has published a new book, titled “Manhattan's Hotel des Artistes: America's Paris on West 67th Street.” Hudovernik received his MFA from the School of Education’s Art Department in 1980.

Through the generosity of Roland and Ruth Rockwell, the UW–Madison School of Education is pleased to offer four $1,000 awards to outstanding cooperating teachers. The Rockwell Awards recognize excellent teachers who have chosen to pass on their expertise by providing professional experiences for UW–Madison student teachers. The nomination deadline is May 15, 2021.
