UW–Madison’s Brighouse elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences


UW–Madison’s Harry Brighouse has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honorary societies.

Brighouse was one of four UW–Madison faculty members elected this year in the social and behavioral sciences category, along with Patricia Devine, Lisa Martin, and Mark Seidenberg.

Brighouse is the Mildred Fish Harnack Professor of Philosophy of Education and the Carol Dickson Bascom Professor of the Humanities in the Department of Philosophy. He is also an affiliate professor of educational policy studies and directs the Center for Ethics and Education, which is housed in the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) within the School of Education.

Brighouse’s research focuses on political philosophy, applied ethics, philosophy of education, and educational policy and practice.
