UW–Madison’s Li Chiao-Ping is the recipient of the Best Direction Award from the Experimental Dance and Music Film Festival in January 2023.
Li, the Sally Banes Professor of Dance and a Vilas Research Professor in the School of Education’s Dance Department, was honored for her work on “Provenance: A Letter to My Daughter,” a screendance work she choreographed and directed. “Provenance” is short dance film about a transnational adoptee’s personal experiences struggling with identity, belonging, and inclusion growing up in the Midwest of America.
The goal of the festival — which runs every three months at the Carlton Cinemas in downtown Toronto, Canada — is to showcase the best of new experimental short films and independent music videos from around the world.
