As a Hmong American, first-generation college graduate of the School of Human Ecology at UW-Madison, Pa Houa Xiong takes great pride in helping students transition to and navigate through college. She is passionate about providing access and advocacy for students while creating opportunities to increase their confidence around money management and financial wellness. Her higher education career thus far includes academic advising, admissions and recruitment, public relations, program coordination, and student conduct.

About the School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship
The School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship is awarded to students with impressive accomplishments and aspirations. We believe that these students will be valuable members of our school community and want them to attend.
The School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship is awarded to select students based upon their potential to make a distinct and valuable impact on the UW-Madison community. Recipients are chosen based upon their application for admission and the compelling character, achievement, and aspirations we discover.
Incoming freshmen are eligible to receive eight (8) consecutive semesters (4 years) of the School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship.

Receiving the School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship

No. The School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship is automatically awarded to eligible students who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Yes. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to be eligible for the School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship. Scholarship recipients are required to complete the FAFSA annually.
While a student is in School
The School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship is awarded for eight (8) consecutive semesters (4 years). Students can make the most of this scholarship by maintaining full-time enrollment. Therefore, we strongly encourage students to maintain full-time enrollment. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
No. The School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship only applies to fall and spring semesters and cannot be applied to summer term tuition or fees. Other financing options may be available for summer educational expenses, including the Undergraduate Scholarship for Summer Study.
Although the School of Education Dean’s Excellence Scholarship does not pay for study abroad-related expenses, students should still submit their FAFSA as other financing options may be available. Students who are considering studying abroad should meet with both a Study Abroad advisor and a Financial Aid advisor to consider all of their options.
Students that are not meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements cannot receive financial aid, including the School of Education’s Dean’s Excellence Scholarship.
