A show from UW–Madison’s Derrick Buisch, a professor of painting and drawing with the Art Department, is being housed at the School of Education Gallery through Oct. 30. This exhibition is titled, “Intermission” and features paintings from Buisch that he completed during a recent sabbatical. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m.

With the start of the new academic year, the leadership within UW-Madison’s Division of the Arts will be transitioning. Outgoing Director John Baldacchino will assume a role as professor of arts education in the School of Education’s Art Department. Susan Zaeske, associate dean of arts and humanities in the College of Letters & Science, will serve as the interim director.

UW-Madison's Yeohyun Ahn recently presented her new project, which focuses on isolation and marginalization in higher education, at the 2019 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) Games, Entertainment, and Media (GEM) Conference hosted by Yale University’s Center for Collaborative Arts and Media June 19-22. Ahn is an assistant professor of graphic design and interactive media with the School of Education's Art Department. Ahn's project, which is titled “Social Homelessness on U.S. Campuses,” brings together multidisciplinary art and design research to explore the isolation of Asian female faculty members in higher education.

The UW-Madison Division of the Arts will welcome Ben Barson and Gizelxanath Rodriguez as the Spring 2020 Interdisciplinary Artists in Residence. The Spring 2020 Interdisciplinary Arts Residency Program is presented by the UW-Madison Division of the Arts and hosted by the Asian American Studies Program, with Associate Professor Peggy Choy of the School of Education’s Dance Department as lead faculty. Co-sponsors include the Dance Department and the Mead Witter School of Music.

UW-Madison’s Faisal Abdu’Allah is featured in “Get Up, Stand Up Now,” a major exhibition celebrating 50 years of black creativity in Britain and beyond. Abdu’Allah is an associate professor with the School of Education’s Art Department. He works mostly in printmaking and installation, often raising questions of race and identity in relation to issues of cultural diversity and multiculturalism. “Get Up, Stand Up Now” is on display through Sept. 15 at the Somereset House in London.

Faisal Abdu'Allah, a faculty member with the School of Education's Art Department, has partnered with other artists and physicists from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory to explore the intersection between art and science, the role of serendipity in our lives and the diverse ways we perceive and understand our universe. The exhibits integrate with the upcoming International Cosmic Ray Conference hosted by the Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center in Madison July 24 to Aug. 1.

Romnes awards recognize exceptional faculty members who have earned tenure within the last six years. The awards are supported by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF).
