The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMOCA) has been selected for a significant grant award from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts that will support a fall 2022 exhibition of work by UW–Madison’s Faisal Abdu’Allah, the associate dean of the arts in the School of Education. Abdu'Allah's DARK MATTER, opening Sept. 17, 2022, explores cultural representation and the systems of power that structure our experiences of the world.

Each spring, the UW–Madison Division of the Arts celebrates artistic achievement, recognizes service to the arts, and supports arts research by bestowing the Creative Arts Awards. This year's awards include several individuals with ties to the UW–Madison School of Education.

A book of literary philosophy, written in Maltese by UW–Madison’s John Baldacchino, was a finalist in the Literary Nonfiction category for Malta’s National Book Prize. Baldacchino is a professor of art and education within the School of Education’s Art Department.

A project by UW–Madison student Nicole Golownia has been selected for ARTIFACT [BOLD], a national biennial exhibition of graphic design, new media, illustration, printmaking, and the expanded field that is taking place Jan. 24 – Mar. 11 at High Point University in High Point, North Carolina. Golownia is pursuing her BFA in graphic design within the School of Education’s Art Department.

UW–Madison alumna Dyani White Hawk is the recipient of a 2021 award from the New York-based organization, Anonymous was a Woman. White Hawk earned her MFA from the School of Education’s Art Department in 2011. She is a visual artist and independent curator based in Minneapolis.

How can art be used to tell a story and spread awareness? What are the ways art can be utilized to share accounts of people’s lives and elevate those lesser-known, powerful stories? UW graduate student Caitlin Mary Margarett utilizes her art to raise awareness of climate change by telling these stories.

UW–Madison’s Emily Arthur is the curator of a current exhibition, “Seeing Audubon: Robert Havell Jr. and The Birds of America,” at the Chazen Museum. Arthur is an artist, printmaker, and associate professor in the School of Education’s Art Department.

UW–Madison student Caitlin Mary Margarett has been selected to show her work at a Satellite Art Show presented by Performance Is Alive in Miami Nov. 30 – Dec. 4. The piece she is presenting, “for the love of god,” documents the damage and land destruction caused by the 2020 Iowa Derecho.
