Stonehouse, Smith honored with 2020 Awards in the Creative Arts

Each May, the UW­–Madison Division of the Arts celebrates artistic achievement, recognizes service to the arts, and supports arts research by bestowing the Awards in the Creative Arts. And once again, artists associated with the School of Education were recipients of these honors. Fred Stonehouse received the Creative Arts Award and Leslie Smith III was recognized with the Emily Mead Baldwin Award in the Creative Arts.

Moeller co-authors op-ed: ‘Gates Foundation’s tactics to remake public education during pandemic are undemocratic’

UW–Madison’s Kathryn Moeller co-authored an op-ed that was recently published by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. Moeller is an assistant professor with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Policy Studies, and the author of “The Gender Effect: Capitalism, Feminism, and the Corporate Politics of Development.” The op-ed is co-authored with Rebecca Tarlau, an assistant professor of education, and labor and employment relations at Pennsylvania State University.

Researchers release free, at-home early math resources for families

A team of education researchers from across the country has pooled its expertise to develop the, “At-Home Early Math Learning Kit for Families.” Among those helping with the initiative is UW–Madison's Amy Claessens, who holds the Gulbrandsen Distinguished Chair in Early Childhood Education.

Atypical path leads Marshalek to Truman Scholarship, one of country’s top academic honors

There was a time when UW–Madison junior Tina Marshalek hesitated to tell people she was a non-traditional transfer student. Or that she had been homeschooled from kindergarten through 12th grade. Marshalek’s atypical academic path has led to a very elevated place. She has been named a Truman Scholar, one of the most prestigious undergraduate honors in the country.
