UW–Madison School of Education unveils bold new program to invest in Wisconsin’s future teachers

The Teacher Pledge provides financial support — including up to in-state tuition, fees, and testing certification costs — for students enrolled in one of the School’s teacher education programs. In return, after graduating the students “pledge” to teach for three or four years at a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school in Wisconsin. Students who go on to teach in a high-need district or in a high-need subject area will fulfill their obligation in three years, while all others will do so in four.

Chief Diversity Officer Sims to depart for provost role in North Carolina

Chief Diversity Officer and Deputy Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion Patrick Sims will depart later this summer to become the executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a top-ranked creative and performing arts conservatory in Winston-Salem, N.C.  Sims arrived at UW–Madison in 2004 as a faculty member with the Department of Theatre and Drama, which today is housed in the School of Education.

UW–Madison announces Smart Restart plan to reopen in fall

The University of Wisconsin–Madison plans to begin fall classes as scheduled on Sept. 2 and offer in-person instruction in many courses until the Thanksgiving recess, the university announced on Wednesday, June 17. Department of Theatre and Drama presenting ‘Julius Caesar’ through March 8

UW-Madison's Department of Theatre and Drama presents their production of “Julius Caeser,” by William Shakespeare, through March 8. The play follows “a country riven by polarization” and “a resistance pushing its ideals to an extreme action.” Performances are at the Mitchell Theatre in Vilas Hall.

Department of Theatre and Drama presents ‘Clybourne Park’ through Nov. 24

The School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama presents its production of “Clybourne Park,” which opened on Friday, Nov. 15 in the Mitchell Theatre and runs through Nov. 24. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, “Clybourne Park” is an explosive, sharp-witted, and intense look at questions of race, gentrification, and community.

‘Evil Dead: The Musical’ runs through Aug. 25; returns Sept. 12-29

This summer, the School of Education’s’ Department of Theatre and Drama is putting on a production of “Evil Dead: The Musical,” which runs through Aug. 25. The musical binds elements from the cult classic films "The Evil Dead," "Evil Dead 2," and "Army of Darkness" into a chaotic, comedic, and musical adventure. Following the summer production, "Evil Dead" returns to the stage for a second run, Sept. 12-29.
