Essential to the study’s success are observation systems designed by Courtney Bell, a principal investigator of the study and a UW–Madison learning sciences professor who directs the School of Education’s Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). In building these systems collaboratively with global teaching experts, Bell’s team created the first standardized observational instruments used to measure the teaching and learning of the same unit of instruction across multiple countries.

An innovative program housed within UW–Madison’s School of Education is preparing future special education teachers to work in high-need and rural districts in Wisconsin. Within 14 months, students enrolled in the UW–Madison Special Education Teacher (UW–SET) Residency Program earn a master’s degree and Wisconsin teacher licensure in special education. Each graduate student takes part in a teaching residency in a partner school, gaining the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of students.

UW–Madison's Lynda Barry has been honored with Oregon State University’s Stone Award for literary achievement. Barry is an associate professor of interdisciplinary creativity and holds the Chazen Family Distinguished Chair in the School of Education’s Art Department.
