Amidei, an assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama, speaks with On Wisconsin about how she creates costumes and characters, as well as a caring and inclusive environment for performers.

She says that when she started college she intended to pursue a degree in a science field. However, work in her college costume shop convinced her to change her career path.

“Costume design was the perfect combo of the things that I liked about science — the creative problem-solving and the use of materials in new and interesting ways — with the things I liked about English, artmaking, drawing, and sewing,” Amidei says.
