Article from alum O’Connor explains importance of teaching culturally


UW–Madison alumnus David O’Connor is the author of a recently published articled titled, “Don’t Just Teach About Cultures — Teach Culturally. Here’s the Difference.”

O’Connor is the American Indian Studies Consultant with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. He holds a master’s degree from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

The blog post appears on the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt website. O’Connor explains of his article, “In the journey of the work, I always share my own stories and perspectives in the hope that, in turn, educators will reflect, share their own stories, and learn about Wisconsin’s First Nations along with their students.”
