UW-Madison alumni Virginia “Ginny” Conway and Michael Conway recently created two funds in support of the School of Education, one with the Department of Kinesiology’s Adapted Fitness Program and the other in the Dance Department.
Virginia Conway received a degree in physical education from the School of Education in 1978, while Michael Conway received his degree from UW-Madison’s Department of Engineering in 1978.
When asked about their donation, the Conways said, “When we took our tour of the kinesiology department we were very impressed by the Adapted Fitness Lab. It combined practical problem solving for a range of undergraduates and graduates, as well as providing a needed service to the surrounding community. For us, it was a clear area to provide support.”
One student is already benefitting from the Conway’s generosity: Kecia Doyle Greene is the first recipient of the Conway Graduate Fellowship Fund in Adapted Fitness. Greene is a Ph.D. candidate with the Department of Kinesiology, and will be providing graduate-level training and assistance to the Adapted Fitness Program.
The Conways were also excited to embrace the program’s dedication to its participants. They noted that the lab is effective in creating a welcoming environment for patients, incorporating inclusive practices to encourage, inspire, and retain students and participants.
With the support of the Conways, the Adapted Fitness Program will be able to offer an additional section of classes and provide more assistance and oversight to existing classes.
