UW–Madison’s Chell Parkins was a guest on a recent episode of Ocu-Pasión Podcast.

In the episode, titled “Culturally Relevant Dance Education With Chell Parkins of Ballet Hispánico,” Parkins discusses the experiences of Latin youth engaged in culturally relevant dance-making practices, her contribution to the nation’s only doctoral program focused on educational research in dance, and her journey back to Puerto Rico.
Parkins is the inaugural Arnhold Director in Dance Education in the School of Education’s Dance Department, a position she began on Aug. 1. She is also a doctoral candidate at Teachers College, Columbia University, and has served as a scholar-in-residence and consultant to the community engagement director at Ballet Hispánico. In her work at Ballet Hispánico, which she discusses in the podcast episode, Parkins assisted in the development of the company’s community engagement curriculum.
Ocu-Pasión Podcast is an interview series, hosted by Delsy Sandoval, that showcases the experiences of artists and visionaries within the Latin American/Latinx community.
