The Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab, directed by UW–Madison’s Nick Hillman, has launched a new series on its website titled, “Student Debt in Wisconsin.”

“It is surprisingly difficult to find authoritative and timely data on this topic,” explains the main web page for the series, “yet doing so can help inform public discussions around the causes and consequences of student loan debt.”

“This series focuses on statewide trends and, when possible, will dig deeper into Wisconsin counties, metropolitan areas, and colleges and universities. By bringing new insights to this issue, we hope to spark new conversations and provide resources to identify and address student debt problems.”

Currently, five articles are posted, including reports on federal debt in Wisconsin, student debt across Wisconsin metro areas, and debt at graduation and default rates among Wisconsin colleges and universities. The SSTAR Lab plans to post additional articles throughout the summer.

You can access the articles, here.

Hillman is an associate professor with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

The SSTAR Lab’s mission is to use applied academic research to guide, support, and partner with practitioners whose work aims to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for current and future college students.
