UW alum Miller says children should take responsibility for their learning in new book

UW–Madison alumnus Kevin Miller has authored a new book that is titled, “Know Power, Know Responsibility: How to Unleash the Potential of Every Child in America.”

Know Power, Know Responsibility book coverMiller received his master’s degree in 2002 from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. He is the founder and director of Know Power, Know Responsibility LLC, an organization dedicated to helping everyone unleash their potential.

In his book, Miller argues that our current, “compliance-based” school model — featuring an array of rewards and punishments — does not lead students to reach their full potential.

From the description on the Itasca Book’s website:

[Miller] provides a comprehensive explanation of how our current factory model of school is limiting the individual and collective potential of entire generations of children. He then illustrates an alternative model in which children are granted power over — and take responsibility for — their own learning, growth, and development.
