UW–Madison alum Coon returns to American Players Theatre

Coon received her master of fine arts degree from the Department of Theatre and Drama, which today is housed within the School of Education.

After studying at UW–Madison, APT “launched Coon’s career as an actor,” before she moved on to Chicago theater, New York theater and then to movies, such as “Gone Girl” and “The Post,” as well as television roles in “The Leftovers” and upcoming “The Sinner.”

“Of course I’m back here!” Coon said, when she returned to Spring Green for a “Perspectives in Criticism” talk during the American Theatre Critics Association’s annual conference.

“She’s also known for her wit and candor in an industry that’s woefully short in both departments. She speaks honestly about how women are treated in Hollywood and is unabashed about her politics on Twitter when another star might be more gun-shy … The work that she’s done to bring her to this point, both as an artist and as a human being, began in Spring Green,” Rob Thomas wrote for The Cap Times.
