UW–Madison student Nikhil Tiwari has been awarded a 2021 Graduate Research Grant from the national honor society Phi Kappa Phi.
Tiwari is a PhD student in the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction. His research focuses on the languaging, literacies, and racialization of Asian Indian American youth.
The $1,500 award will support Tiwari’s dissertation research, with a working title of “The monetized minority: A multi-sited critical ethnography of Asian Indian American youth in the Midwest.” For the study, Tiwari will be currently conducting digital, ethnographic fieldwork in community settings as well as in middle-school literacy and social studies classrooms.
This is the second award Tiwari has received from Phi Kappa Phi. In summer 2020, he received a Zillman Summer Research Award from the UW–Madison chapter of the organization.
