UW–Madison’s Amidei featured in Capital Times for ‘Cinderella’ costume design


UW–Madison’s Aly Renee Amidei, an assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama, was featured in the Capital Times for her work as the costume designer for Children’s Theater of Madison’s (CTM) recent production of “Cinderella.”

Amidei, who has extensive experience designing for professional theater productions across the country, shared her excitement about the production’s scale and scope in the article.

“A show like this is full of magic,” she said. “It basically takes a small sparkly army to make a show like this happen.”

The Capital Times article highlights Amidei’s creative process and the challenges she faced, particularly in creating the magical transformation dress, where she drew inspiration from European folkwear and 18th-century court garments.

Amidei stressed the importance of the backstage team, including a staff of skilled stitchers and craftspeople, in bringing the onstage magic to life.
