UW–Madison’s White Hawk selected for Whitney Museum biennial

UW–Madison alumna and incoming painting professor Dyani White Hawk has been selected for the Whitney Museum of American Art’s 80th biennial exhibition, “Quiet as It’s Kept.” White Hawk, one of four Native artists to be included in this year's biennial, has created a large-scale, mixed-media piece rooted in Lakota aesthetics to show at the exhibition.

An inspiring story about UW–Madison alumnus Edward Wortis appears in the Winter 2021 issue of On Wisconsin magazine. Wortis, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of Theatre and Drama, has struggled through his lifetime with dysgraphia, a neurological disorder that impairs the ability to write. Despite this, he has written more than 80 bestselling children's books and earned top honors in the field.
UW–Madison alum Ko is president-elect of CEC division for culturally, linguistically diverse learners

UW–Madison alumnus Dosun Ko has been named as the 2022 president-elect of the Council for Exceptional Children’s Division for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Exceptional Learners (DDEL). Ko earned his PhD from the School of Education’s Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education in 2020. He is currently an assistant professor in the School of Education at Wichita State University.
STAT reports on study by UW–Madison researchers that asks, ‘What mental health apps actually work?’

The work of UW–Madison’s Simon Goldberg is examined in a report from the health-oriented news website STAT that’s headlined, “What types of mental health apps actually work? A sweeping new analysis finds the data is sparse.” The report examines a meta-review paper that was published in PLOS Digital Health by Goldberg and a study team, including Sin U. Lam, a PhD student in the Department of Counseling Psychology, and UW–Madison alumna Shufang Sun, who earned her PhD from the department and is now an assistant professor at Brown University.

School of Education well represented at INEI webinar focused around literacy

Several individuals with ties to the UW–Madison School of Education were presenters at an INEI virtual webinar, “Language and Literacy Education: Cross-National Experiences,” that took place on Dec. 10. The webinar, hosted by the School of Education at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, invited faculty and graduate students from around the world to share their expertise and engage in discussions around literacy.
‘Part of who I am:’ Earlise Ward continues public service after Morgridge Center departure

Following three years of dedicated service as the faculty director at the Morgridge Center for Public Service, Earlise Ward will be stepping down from the position at the end of the fall 2021 semester. Following her departure, she will return to her full-time faculty duties at the School of Nursing and continue her research.
