Maryam Ladoni, a photo-based artist who grew up in Iran and came to UW–Madison to pursue a master of fine arts, recently posted her MFA exhibition online and then shared a powerful video she produced that showcases her journey and the staged photography work that led “Cheltikeh.” A preview of Ladoni’s online MFA show explains: “My camera, which ironically this time is not in my hands, explores a multitude of answers in ‘Cheltikeh.’ The word means 40 pieces in Persian. It conceptually means infinity and the word for quilt as I see my life as a quilt of experiences.”

Due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this month, Guzzo Pinc's in-person MFA show and reception — scheduled for March 25 in Gallery 7 of the Humanities Building — was canceled. After the initial shock and a feeling of “despair” wore off, the graduate student with the school of Education's Art Department became determined to find a way to bring his exhibition — “EGGS: A Grand Scale Painting Comedy” — into public view. On March 25, he launched the exhibition online.

UW-Madison’s Lisa Gralnick was recently recognized by the American Craft Council (ACC) as a 2020 College of Fellows Honoree. According to an ACC news release, Gralnick “is a contemporary American metalsmith, studio jeweler, and academic whose work challenges the monetary, cultural, and personal value of objects by transforming metals into objects of thought provoking visual beauty.” She has been a faculty member with the School of Education's Art Department since 2001.
