UW-Madison’s Gralnick honored by American Craft Council

UW-Madison’s Lisa Gralnick was recently recognized by the American Craft Council (ACC) as a 2020 College of Fellows Honoree. According to an ACC news release, Gralnick “is a contemporary American metalsmith, studio jeweler, and academic whose work challenges the monetary, cultural, and personal value of objects by transforming metals into objects of thought provoking visual beauty.” She has been a faculty member with the School of Education's Art Department since 2001.

Novelist James Patterson to keynote commencement; John Felder will be alumni speaker

James Patterson, the world's top-selling author of the past 20 years, will give the charge to graduates as keynote speaker for spring commencement at UW-Madison. Joining him on stage will be this year's alumni speaker, John Felder, a retired labor union administrator and one of the primary organizers of the Black Student Strike of 1969 at UW-Madison.

Big move: Buisch’s painting makes its way to the Chazen

As a part of the campus-wide faculty show at UW-Madison’s Chazen Museum, Derrick Buisch, a professor with the School of Education’s Art Department, and a team of helpers, moved his 38.75-foot-long painting from the Art Lofts to the museum across major streets on campus.

‘Urban Bubble’ exhibition showing through Jan. 31

The Bubbler, in collaboration with UW-Madison’s Faisal Abdu’Allah and MMSD’s Foundations Central graduation recovery program, presents an art exhibition by Madison youth. "Urban Bubble" is currently showing at the Overture Center for the Arts’ Rotunda Gallery, until Jan. 31.

Milton’s lens captures impact of socio-economic issues

Lianne Milton is a documentary photographer and photojournalist who is pursuing a master of fine arts degree through the School of Education’s Art Department. Milton explains that her work “examines the impact of socio-economic issues on race, class, and citizenship — from global migration to the lasting effects of poverty and violence — as well as exploring the relationship between the environmental landscape and the human experience.”
