The Capital Times spoke with UW–Madison’s Stephanie Graham and Anna Kawennison Fetter for a report headlined, “College students and mental health counselors in Madison adapt to pandemic needs.” Graham is director of the Counseling Psychology Training Clinic (CPTC) and Fetter is a doctoral candidate. The CPTC is staffed by graduate students in our Department of Counseling Psychology’s master’s and doctoral programs who are supervised by licensed psychologists.

UW–Madison student Zoua Lor has been awarded a research grant from the American Psychological Association’s Commission on Ethnic Minority Recruitment, Retention and Training for a project entitled, “A Study of Hmong Student-Family Relationships in College.” Lor is a PhD student in the School of Education’s Department of Counseling Psychology.

Madison’s local NBC affiliate, WMTV/Ch. 15, utilized the expertise of UW–Madison’s Travis Wright for a report on talking to kids about the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol. Wright is a professor in the School of Education’s Department of Counseling Psychology.

What a year it has been! Since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, we faced challenges that few could have envisioned. Despite 2020 being such a unique year, our School of Education has retained its sense of optimism — and a belief in big ideas.

UW–Madison’s Simon Goldberg is the lead author of a new paper published in Psychological Medicine that is titled, “Post-acute psychological effects of classical serotonergic psychedelics: a systematic review and meta-analysis.” Goldberg is an assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Counseling Psychology.

The School of Education’s Simon Goldberg, along with his colleagues at UW–Madison’s Center for Healthy Minds, have received a $500,000 award from the Hope for Depression Research Foundation to develop a highly scalable, mobile health intervention to support treatment for depression.

However, our School of Education students are just as bright, driven, and inspiring as always.
