Research on internships published in Teachers College Record

A research team including UW–Madison’s Matthew Hora, Matthew Wolfgram, and Changhee Lee have published an article in the Teachers College Record. Their article, titled "Closing the Doors of Opportunity: A Field Theoretic Analysis of the Prevalence and Nature of Obstacles to College Internships," examines the obstacles that college students face when they seek internships.

Early Literacy and Beyond Task Force issues final report

Experts from the Madison Metropolitan School District and UW–Madison provide a new path to early literacy. The report is the culmination of months of collaborative work to review evidence and identify the most effective ways to teach literacy in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. “I’m grateful for the hard work of so many talented educators, researchers, and leaders on this joint task force and their efforts in focusing on improving literacy instruction,” says School of Education Dean Diana Hess. “We plan on immediately getting to work on translating the recommendations into an implementation plan.”

UW–Madison’s Hillman says messaging ‘on point’ in Ohio State plan for students to graduate debt-free

The Chronicle of Higher Education utilized the expertise of UW–Madison’s Nick Hillman for an article that is headlined, “Ohio State U. Unveils a Plan for All Students to Graduate Debt-Free.” Hillman is an associate professor with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, and the director of the Student Success through Applied Research (SSTAR) lab.

UW–Madison alumna Pfeiffer named Wisconsin Superintendent of the Year

UW–Madison alumna Mary Pfeiffer was named Wisconsin Superintendent of the Year by the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA) on Monday, Nov. 8. Pfeiffer currently is the superintendent of the Neenah Joint School District. She earned two degrees from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis — a master’s in 1999 and a PhD in 2006.

UW–Madison’s Mead serving as president of Education Law Association

UW–Madison’s Julie Mead is now serving as president of the Education Law Association (ELA), a role she started during the organization’s annual conference Oct. 20-23 in San Antonio, Texas. Mead is a professor emerita with the School of Education's Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.
