Inside Higher Ed utilized the expertise of UW–Madison’s Matthew Hora in a recent article reporting on research finding that young adults need more time, education, and work experience than past generations to secure what are considered "good jobs." The article reports on a pair of new reports from the Center on Education and the Workforce (CEW) at Georgetown University.

Two scholars with ties to the UW–Madison School of Education have been selected as 2022 National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer Dissertation Fellows. Tyler Hook is a current graduate student in the Department of Educational Policy Studies, and Jessica Lee Stovall is an alumna of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Hook is the sixth student studying with the Department of Educational Policy Studies since 2020 to be named an NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellow. In 2021 Elizabeth Hauck and Rachel Johnson received these awards and in 2020 Qing Liu, Huimin Wang, and Choua Xiong were selected.

A project with ties to the UW–Madison School of Education is one of seven that have been awarded 2022-23 Wisconsin Idea Fellowships. The winning proposal, by Siena Laws and Elizabeth Liu, aims to "promote mental health knowledge and create a sense of community at Madison East High School through the power of peer learning."

UW–Madison alumnus Mike González received a 2022 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Principal Leadership Award. González, who earned his master’s degree from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Policy Studies in 2006, is principal of Bessie Allen Middle School in the School District of North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

The American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) 2022 Annual Meeting recently wrapped up after being offered both in person in San Diego and virtually. More than 125 faculty, staff, and students from the UW–Madison School of Education presented at the conference, which ran April 21-26.

The UW–Madison School of Education recognized some of its most outstanding individuals with Faculty and Staff Distinguished Achievement Awards during a reception and short ceremony on Thursday, April 14. This year’s event also included recognition of the inaugural recipients of the School of Education’s Impact 2030 Staff Innovation Awards.

The costs are serious, and they are often overlooked by universities,” notes a preview of the most recent episode of the Ethics & Education podcast, produced by the Center for Ethics & Education in the School of Education’s Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). The episode features UW–Madison’s Nancy Kendall and Matthew Wolfgram, two of the authors of the 2020 book, “The True Costs of College,” and is hosted by recent UW–Madison graduate Natnael Shiferaw.
