Research on internships published in Teachers College Record

A research team including UW–Madison’s Matthew Hora, Matthew Wolfgram, and Changhee Lee have published an article in the Teachers College Record. Their article, titled "Closing the Doors of Opportunity: A Field Theoretic Analysis of the Prevalence and Nature of Obstacles to College Internships," examines the obstacles that college students face when they seek internships.

Early Literacy and Beyond Task Force issues final report

Experts from the Madison Metropolitan School District and UW–Madison provide a new path to early literacy. The report is the culmination of months of collaborative work to review evidence and identify the most effective ways to teach literacy in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. “I’m grateful for the hard work of so many talented educators, researchers, and leaders on this joint task force and their efforts in focusing on improving literacy instruction,” says School of Education Dean Diana Hess. “We plan on immediately getting to work on translating the recommendations into an implementation plan.”

Theatre and Drama presents dark comedy ‘Bonnets’ Dec. 2-12

The Department of Theatre and Drama’s newest production, “Bonnets,” is a dark comedy that plays with elements of camp, history, and rock ‘n roll. The play, by Jen Silverman and directed by guest artist Pamela Sterling, will run Dec. 2-12 in the department’s Ronald E. Mitchell Theatre.

UW–Madison’s Nathan to present book talk for ‘Foundations of Embodied Learning’ on Nov. 30

UW–Madison’s Mitchell Nathan, the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Learning Sciences in the Department of Educational Psychology, will be presenting an online book talk hosted by Madison’s A Room of One’s Own bookstore on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. During the event, Nathan will discuss his book, “Foundations of Embodied Learning: A Paradigm for Education,” with Martha Wagner Alibali, a professor of psychology and director of the Cognitive Development and Communication Lab at UW–Madison.
