UW–Madison's Li-Ching Ho, a professor in the School of Education's Department of Curriculum and Instruction, is a co-author of a new book that is titled, “Curriculum for Justice and Harmony: Deliberation, Knowledge, and Action in Social and Civic Education.” A book launch for “Curriculum for Justice and Harmony” will be held at the Pyle Center at UW–Madison on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

UW–Madison’s Mitchell Nathan is the author of a new book that is titled, “Foundations of Embodied Learning: A Paradigm for Education,” published by Routledge. Nathan is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology.

The UW–Madison Division of the Arts’ Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Committee is pleased to announce the launch of a new funding opportunity called the Artivism Student Action Program (ASAP). The program, which will offer funding awards ranging from $100 to $5,000, was developed in response to students' desires to use politically engaged art to bring about a more equitable world.

Two current students and a recent graduate of an innovative UW–Madison special education teacher preparation program received the unique opportunity to meet and speak with U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona during a campus visit Monday, Sept. 20. Joining them in a conversation that lasted about 20 minutes was Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, UW–Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, and School of Education Dean Diana Hess.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Dorothy Farrar Edwards is a co-author of a study released Monday, Sept. 20, in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) that found an optimal time for intensive rehabilitation of arm and hand use after a stroke. She is the School of Education’s associate dean for research and a professor with the Department of Kinesiology.

At the start of the pandemic, Keith Kaziak found an unusual inspiration for a new sculpture. The resulting creation — titled "Tower of Boxes" — was awarded the International Sculpture Center's 2021 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award, one of only 11 winners nationwide.

The Office of Child Care and Family Resources (OCCFR) at UW–Madison has received a Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Cigdem Unal, the director of OCCFR, is the author and principal investigator on the grant, which is for $875,828 over a four-year cycle.

The woodblock print currently on display in the lobby of the Department of Theatre and Drama captures the complexity of the characters in the play "Rashomon," which runs through Sept. 26 in the department's Ronald E. Mitchell Theatre. Within the print lies another story, however — of UW–Madison connections that stretch over decades.
