Christine Pfund and Jenna Rogers of the School of Education’s Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) are co-investigators on a project that aims to reduce inequality in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medical sciences (STEMM) fields through culturally aware mentor training. Their study is among 15 chosen to receive grants through UW–Madison's Understanding and Reducing Inequalities Initiative.

UW–Madison’s Aydin Bal, a professor in the School of Education's Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education, is first author of an article published in the journal Cognition and Instruction that is titled, “Inclusive Future Making: Building a Culturally Responsive Behavioral Support. Joining Bal as co-authors of the paper are UW–Madison alumni Kemal Afacan and Halil Ibrahim Cakir, and Tremayne Clardy, the new superintendent of the Verona Area School District.

There is a new space for the arts in downtown Madison, and work by a UW–Madison art students recent alumnus was featured in its inaugural exhibit. The exhibit, titled “The Burden of Reality,” showcased the art of BFA student Paulina Eguino and spring 2021 graduate Tony Torres.

The Center for Research on College-Workforce Transitions (CCWT) is shedding light on the higher education experiences of five diverse groups of students from Wisconsin, Georgia, and Maryland during the COVID crisis through a new digital hub.

A School of Education student, Jesus Garza-Noriega, is being recognized with an Outstanding Undergraduate Returning Adult Student Award from UW–Madison for his exceptional efforts and exemplary service. Garza-Noriega, 27, will graduate in December with a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation psychology and special education.

Chris Walker, an artist and an experienced and influential leader in the arts on campus, has been named the new director of the Division of the Arts. Walker is a professor in the School of Education’s Dance Department and founding artistic director of First Wave, a nationally prominent scholarship program known for pushing the boundaries of poetry, dance, theater, and art.
