UW–Madison alumna Rana Yaghmaian has been honored with the Leona Tyler Award from the Oregon Counseling Association (ORCA).
Yaghmaian is an assistant professor in the Counselor Education Department at Portland State University (PSU), and she is also the coordinator of PSU’s Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling Program. She earned her doctorate in rehabilitation psychology from the UW–Madison School of Education’s Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education.
The Leona Tyler Award recognizes counselors in Oregon who have made outstanding contributions to the profession, especially work with a significant impact statewide.
In an article for the PSU College of Education, Yaghmaian said that she is thrilled to receive this honor.
“It’s really made me reflect on how I approach my various roles,” she said. “The work I was nominated for has come along with a lot of imperfection, missteps, and discoveries of my growth edges. So for me, this is a reminder that we can be imperfect and messy and still be worthy of recognition.”
