Screen.Dance 2021, Scotland’s festival of dance on screen, announced its 2021 festival awards.
The jury members selected four works for festival awards and four for special mentions in two main competitive categories — UK and International. This year the International category uniquely recognized three additional contenders from three curated festival programs: Growing Up, Going Out and Staying In.
UW–Madison’s Kate Corby, a professor in the School of Education’s Dance Department, was awarded the International Jury Special Mention in the Growing Up category for her film “Hungars Beach.”
“Hungars Beach” explores memory, trauma, and the power of place through a series of simultaneously beautiful and unsettling images. A small beach and cottage provide a vivid backdrop for a woman in distress, haunted by images of her younger self and the inescapable weight of loss.
