The UW–Madison Dance Department and Li Chiao-Ping Dance (LCPD) will present “I CHING 20 : On Seeing and Being Seen” March 7-9 in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall (1050 University Ave., Madison).
The concert features five new dance performances by Li Chiao-Ping, the Sally Banes Professor of Dance and a Vilas Research Professor in the Dance Department, as well as works by guest artist Omari “Motion” Carter.
Li Chiao-Ping’s included pieces are part of her NEA-funded “DIRTY LAUNDRY” project, a new multimedia dance performance that explores the history of Asian immigration, culture, identity, and experience. The project features collaborations with visual artist Hong Huo and composer Byron Au Yong.
Li and cinematographer/editor Christal Wagner will also premiere their new screendance work titled, “in silence is the offering presented,” featuring Li and her son Jacob Li Dai-Loong Rosenberg.
Carter, a hip hop artist, body percussionist, and screendance maker, has recently come from the U.K. to join the Dance Department faculty. His work in this concert will include a screendance piece and a live body percussion solo.
