Glass Madison events celebrate 60 years of glass at UW–Madison

The UW–Madison Glass Lab, housed in the School of Education’s Art Department, is the first collegiate glass program in the nation. And last year, 2022, marked the 60th anniversary of glass at UW.

This year the UW Glass Lab presents Glass Madison — a year-long celebration of the sixth decade of this history. Glass Madison will include exhibitions, a symposium, and public programs throughout the 2023-24 academic year.

Glass Madison Exhibitions through October and beyond reflect contemporary glass practice through a survey of work from the sixth decade of the UW Glass Lab, featuring current student, alumni, and faculty work.

The Glass Madison Educational Gathering (Friday, Oct. 6 – Saturday, Oct. 7) is a symposium of intercollegiate and community glass programs. This convening brings together the creative communities that grew from the founding of the UW Glass Lab over 60 years ago. Students, educators, and glass professionals alike are invited to join us for two days of celebrating contemporary glass practice. The symposium will include lectures, exhibitions, demonstrations, and a collegiate Glass Olympics.

Glass Madison Public Programs (coming soon) consolidates events for members of the community to learn about and appreciate the art of glass-making.
