Madison365.com reports on McKinney Baldon’s involvement in National Women’s March
As Madison365.com explains: “A large delegation of women from around the country — the Associated Press estimated 100,000 marchers — took part in National Women’s March in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. Leading the march, the very first group in line, was a new international coalition of over 100 Jewish Women of Color. And leading the Jewish Women of Color — and carrying the Torah — was Madison’s own Shahanna McKinney Baldon.”
McKinney Baldon, a 1993 alumna of the School of Education, is the director of professional learning with the Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN), which is housed within the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER).
McKinney Baldon tells Madison365 about the importance of their allegiance to the Women’s March. The coalition of the Jewish Women of Color released an open letter which read: “We support the Women’s March and believe that this is the time for our communities to affirm together that women’s rights are human rights and human rights are women’s rights.”
McKinney Baldon comments on her ambitions as she continues to work towards equity, telling Madison365.com that “I’m very much looking forward to this next phase of stepping up our game in terms of getting at the complexities and the nuance around what we need to do to end all types of oppression.”
