News story spotlights summer scholarship recipient from School of Education

Sarah Kopp, a UW–Madison student who is majoring in health promotion and health equity (HPHE) in the School of Education, was featured in a recent news story introducing three of the nearly 1,500 students who have been offered UW–Madison scholarships for Summer Term study.

Kopp, who received the UW–Madison Undergraduate Scholarship for Summer Study, is using the Summer Term “to make room in her degree plan and lighten her course load for fall and spring,” notes the article, which was published on the UW–Madison Summer Term website.

Her summer coursework has included OTM: Operations and Supply Chain Management, where “she hopes to learn how business can be incorporated into public health and health administration.” She is also taking an in-person, service-learning course, LEGAL ST 473: Health Impacts of Unmet Social Needs, which includes working directly with students at a local clinic.

“This learning experience will help me witness firsthand how the social determinants of health affect many individuals and how organizations and policymakers are addressing those determinants,” said Kopp. “I aspire to go into the public health field, and this course will help me figure out if I like working with community health services, which can help me pinpoint my area of study in the future.”
