Team from School of Education wins Outstanding Campus Partner Award

A team of School of Education faculty and staff received the Division of Enrollment Management’s Outstanding Campus Partner Award earlier this spring.

This award recognizes a unit that has demonstrated excellence in partnering with the Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) in advancing the mission of UW–Madison. 

The team of School of Education staff and faculty includes: Christina Klawitter, associate dean for student academic affairs; Francesca Rodriquez, manager of strategic initiatives; Mary Condon, scholarships and fellowships coordinator; John Rudolph, professor with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction; Sarina Lotlikar, marketing associate director; Sarah Fuelleman, advancement manager; and Joan Collins, WFAA development program director. Other faculty and staff from across the School also supported this project.

These individuals were honored because of their participation on the School of Education’s Dean’s Excellence Scholarship project team. They were celebrated on April 25th at the first annual DEM Awards Gala.

The Dean’s Excellence Scholarship project team seeks to recruit a diverse group of undergraduate freshmen by awarding four-year scholarships upon their admission to UW–Madison.

This scholarship is a pilot initiative that started with fall 2022 admits and uses existing undergraduate scholarship funds combined with the campus’ Lumen Scholarship to create guaranteed four-year funding packages that recruit students to the School of Education.

According to DEM’s nomination letter, “The admit-to-enrolled yield rate for fall 2022 incoming undergraduate freshman that were first generation, student of color, or Pell eligible was 46 percent for Dean’s Excellence Scholarship awardees, 17 percent higher than the campus average. The impact of the student’s experience was evidenced through this yield.”

Because of the Dean’s Excellence Scholarship program, the School of Education has been able to grow and diversify undergraduate enrollment. Thirty-nine recipients were welcomed to campus in 2022, and 100 are anticipated in Fall of 2023.
