The Libenský Award is an international competition of emerging glass artists organized by the Prague Gallery of Czech Glass. The award was established in honor of the legendary glass artist Stanislav Libenský, considered the most outstanding Czech glasswork artist and pedagogue.

Chan’s prize-winning piece,”The Melody of Memories,” is an installation consisting of a hanging piece of engraved glass and a piano bench. Having grown up in the music world, Chan explains she often recalls memories through music and sound. The piece visualizes the movement of Chan’s fingerprints on piano while playing a melody.

“This is an expression of music in glass that we haven’t seen before,” notes a webpage announcing the award winners. “Using glass in a pure poetic way without any sounds allows us to contemplate it in a personal way.”
