UW–Madison’s Thomas S. Popkewitz, a professor in the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction, has received a Fulbright Specialist Program award.

The award, granted by the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, supports short-term international exchanges that promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between U.S. scholars and institutions abroad.
Popkewitz has been named to a three-year Fulbright Specialist position and will travel to Brazil twice this year to work with graduate students and faculty at the University of Brasília and institutions in Rio de Janeiro. His work addresses challenges in understanding how curriculum policies are developed and implemented across different educational contexts.
Popkewitz’s project, “Reform, Curriculum Development, and Internationalization,” aims to broaden the dialogue between the fields of curriculum studies and science education, with a focus on how policies function in practice within schools and universities.
Popkewitz is an internationally recognized scholar whose research has examined how curriculum and educational reforms shape social and institutional practices.
