UW–Madison’s Reilly lights world premiere of Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor’s children’s book adaptation

UW–Madison’s Megan Reilly, an assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama, was the lighting designer for the world premiere musical adaptation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s bestselling children’s book, “Just Ask!” at The Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri.

The production, which ran Jan. 29 to Feb. 23, brought to life Sotomayor’s deeply personal story about young people of different abilities working together to create a garden.

“You are doing a piece of God’s work in this theater,” Sotomayor said after attending the debut performance.

“Children’s theaters are so important,” she added. “They help kids see things in different ways, and they bring them to life, not just in their imagination, but in their eyes.”
